Swartz Creek High School Girls Basketball Photo Archive Diane L. Green Photography LLC in Swartz Creek Announces 2009 Senior Model Search Diane L. Green Photography LLC of Swartz Creek my want you. For the first time their photography studio is providing an open senior modeling competition to area high school juniors of the the 2007-2008 school year. Previously the studio had invited only students they knew personally to participate. Diane explains " This year we have had a great deal of interest from parents and seniors about how we choose our models for advertising. While we are local to Swartz Creek and have concentrated our advertising and service on the Swartz Creek community we have had seniors from Grand Blanc, Linden, Bentley, Kearsley, Flushing, Mt. Morris, Durand, Flint, Carmen-Ainsworth and Fenton this year. It was very surprising since we hadn't advertised in any of those areas directly. As we are seeing students from those schools we wanted to include them as well. The idea of a model search just seemed logical. We have had a lot of fun and success photographing this years models at Dow Gardens and Mackinac Island. We have already planned next years locations at Dow Gardens, Mackinaw City, Mackinac Island, Grand Haven and down town Chicago." Students interested in becoming a model for the studio must have parental consent, and submit an application (available at their website) along with one head and shoulder and one full length snap shot. "We are looking for a cross-section of students for our 2009 advertising that represent the many different styles students express today." If you are interested in becoming a senior model for the studio you can visit their website at www.dg-pics.com/seniors.html or contact the studio by phone at 810-496-3498.
Lady Dragons Do It Again! Another Clean Sweep!! The Lady Dragons Basketball teams of Swartz Creek are on a roll. Meeting the Fenton Tigers Thursday night was no problem. Our girls proved that the name Dragons is well deserved. After all what are the attributes of a dragon? They're fast, strong, have wings, can fly and breath fire. At Thursday nights game the Freshman, Junior Varsity and Varsity Lady Dragons showed all of these qualities as they tamed and caged Tigers in 3 successive games ending in another Thursday night clean sweep. So what's the secret to Swartz Creek's success? Well a combination of things are leading to these victories. First we have teams of girls with ability and a desire to win. Its clear that the entire coaching staff is on the same page to victory. The girls have been physically conditioned to play hard throughout the entire game, they have learned the fundamentals of the game, they have been taught to play as a team and have learned to play an intelligent game with strategy. This powerful combination has provided the ground work for the level of play we are now enjoying. The tally of the scoreboard shows just how well our girls have done. Swartz Creek Varsity Lady Dragons Basketball Tied for First Place in The Flint Metro League! While most of the girls basketball games have had light to moderate attendance this season, last Thursday nights Varsity game had a heavy turnout. And why not. The Varsity Lady Dragons are on a roll. With their victory over the Fenton Tigers Swartz Creek is now tied for first place in the Flint Metro League. Students, parents, family, the pep band and news media crowded in the gym and filled the bleachers even onto the balcony to watch this match. Channel 12, The Flint Journal, Tri County times and our own Swartzcreekweek.com news people were on hand to capture the highlights of what was one of the true high point wins of the week. Our lady Dragons started in their usual form being first to put points on the scoreboard. During the first half of the first period Swartz Creek had managed an 8 to 2 lead over the Tigers. As the point total climbed Fenton regained their senses and started to close the lead eventually passing Swartz Creek by a point in the second. In a quick exchange of baskets both the Swartz Creek and Fenton Teams danced their way around each other to exchange the lead by a single point several times and for a moment this game looked as though it might be anyone's ball game. Looks were deceiving however as our Lady Dragons quickly regained the lead in the last half of the second and began to build a spread to distinguish themselves as the clear leader in this game. At the Start of the third period Coach Randy Henry returned to the floor with our Lady Dragons and unleashed a new level of play on a bewildered group of tigers. Pass interceptions, pass deflections and flat out stealing the ball while the Tigers attempted to dribble was the order of the game. Sudden reversals of play direction by the Lady Dragons were taking their toll on Fenton and the lead widened. Just for a moment imagine you were one of Fenton's guards bringing the ball down the court. You take a step and dribble the ball another step another dribble another step and your ball is gone! That is just the type of lightening fast response # 14 Jillian Trebtoske and #24 Jana Hooker used to apply pressure. Covering their opponent like a wet blanket and then curling around them like cats toying with a mouse to take the ball and reverse the direction of play. Meanwhile team members like #35 Megan Johnson, #33 Julia Kelley and # 32 Alex Bearden kept up the pressure with jumps for pass interception and pass deflections from the Tigers to a Dragon team member. As the game proceeded into the forth period the Tigers coach called time out after time out in an attempt to fire up his girls and take them in a direction that would break Swartz Creeks control of the ball. Coach Henry used this to his own advantage keeping the Lady Dragons focused on the goal and the strategy of game being played. By the last two minutes of the game Swartz Creek had a commanding lead and showed just how powerful their ball control was. The best way to keep your opponent from scoring is not giving them the opportunity to touch the ball and that's just what our Lady Dragons did. In an impressive display of fake drives and expertly executed passes our Lady Dragons frazzled and frustrated the Tigers by playing a game of keep away. Always passing always moving the ball forcing the Tigers to come to the ball only to have it disappear to the other side of the court. Forcing the Tigers to run back to defend. For almost 2 full minutes our Lady Dragons made Fenton's Tigers run around in circles looking like cats chasing their tails. As the game clock ticked down the fans, in support of our Lady Dragons pending victory and bragging rights of well executed play began with a well known tune of "Hey Hey Good Bye". At the final buzzer Swartz Creek Won 51 to Fenton's 32. In an interview with Coach Randy Henry after the Game the true gravity of this game comes out. " With this win we are now tied with Fenton and Brandon for first place in the Flint Metro League." Asked about the victory over Fenton coach Henry responded, "The girls played exceptionally well tonight. It shows how all the hard work and conditioning pay off." Coach Henry was obviously proud of each and every one of our Lady Dragons and with the team as a whole as are we all. Great job Ladies. Keep up the fight and bring home the goods. Congratulations!!!!!!
Lady Dragons Clean house on Linden! Clean Sweep! Freshman Swartz Creek 35 Linden 34 Junior Varsity Swartz Creek 47 Linden 46 Varsity Swartz Creek 48 Linden 30 Both the Freshman and Junior Varsity games looked as though Swartz Creek would have no problem easily defeating Linden. The lady Dragons started strong in both games building comfortable leads during the first half only to see the leads slip away in the second half. By the forth period of these two games victory was up for grabs as our Swartz Creek girls slugged it out with Linden exchanging point for point. This close competition in the forth of both games made for tense moments with all eyes on the court. With just a one point spread each basket changed the leaders position. We were ahead they were ahead, back and forth. It was becoming clear in the final seconds of these two incredible games whoever made their basket last and defended their position would win. As the clock ticked down fans nervously watched the exchange. Finally as the clocks ticked down and the final buzzer sounded the outcome for both games was the same Swartz Creek Lady Dragons Win! With the pressure on Our ladies know how to pull out squeakers. Well done ladies!
Varsity Lady Dragons get the job done and don't look back! While the Freshman and Junior Varsity games may have looked like mirror images in last Thursday nights basketball game against Linden The Varsity team under the direction coach Randy Henry showed how to make a decisive victory over your opponent. Start with control of the ball, build a commanding lead, defend your position, and don't look back. The Varsity Lady Dragons did just that in their game. Gaining control of the ball these girls showed their speed and ball handling ability. Always keeping Linden in a try to catch up position Linden looked frazzled by our girls ability to pass the ball around the court. While our girls worked the basics in an orchestared offense of ball control Linden was forced to come forward and chase the ball about the court. Each time their team would find themselves on one side of the court our girls quickly shifted the ball to the other side to make the the shot. Coach Henry has done an excellent job showing these girls not just the fundamentals of the game but the strategy of taking your time to set up your shot and maintain ball control. Looking back was one thing our girls didn't need to do. They are focused on the goal, forging ahead and working as a team. At the end of the game all of the hard work these girls do in practice was evident in the score. Swartz Creek Lady Dragons 48 Linden 30. Well done Ladies. Great game. Swartz Creek JV Lady Dragons Corner Oxford Wildcats! In what as best described as a one sided game our own Lady Junior Varsity Dragons cornered the Oxford Wildcats grabbed them by the tail and didn't let go. Right from the out set of the game the Lady Dragons showed they were going to be a power house being first to score and building on that start. As each successive period was played the Dragons continued to score and spread the lead while the defense held the Wilds at bay. This was a fun and exciting game to watch. Check the athletic schedule for all of the Junior Varsity Lady Dragon Games. Well done Ladies. Keep up the good work! Varsity Lady Dragons Win!
Cats may be fast but Dragons have wings. With the JV team showing the way our own Varsity Lady Dragons mat the Oxford wildcats on the court Thursday night for a little basketball. Taking flight from the start our ladies scored first and for four periods kept these cats playing a game of catch up. The lead over the cats may have changed in size from time to time but the Dragons showed they were always in control of the ball and the hoops. As the clock ticked away the cats clawed and snarled but dragons maintained control. With the sound of the final buzzer Dragons win! Swartz Creek Dragons 60 Oxford Wildcats 45. Well done ladies! Great Job!
