Regarding the Bond Issue:

With so much talk about the school bond issue from both sides swartzcreekweek.com has opened a page dedicated to this topic. Click on the blue hot words at the top of the page.  Swartz Creek Bond Issue

I am not sure who I would ask so hopefully I picked the right person. We are aware of your website and think its great. Our group is the Anishinaabe Parent, Inc. We are a non profit organizations that helps Native Americans in Swartz Creek Schools. We have an after school class once a week for Native American students that are enrolled. This is not funded thru the school. We apply for grants every year and raise money on our own. Our problem is that we have trouble getting the word around the community. We thought maybe you could post on your website a schedule of our meetings and the Public meeting. I have enclosed a copy that we sent to the Swartz Creek News. We are just trying to find ways to spread the word about our program. Thank you for your time. We enjoy looking at your website and appreciate all the hard work that is involved in maintaining it. Keep up the great work.

It's Hockey Season in the Creek.

With 2 scrimmages and 3 scheduled games under their sticks the Swartz Creek Hockey team is well on their way to finding a path to the play offs. Anyone not believing this team has what it take to reach for  a title this year should just come out to the ice and watch these young men play. Speed, control and a determantation to win can be seen as our Dragons fly up and down the ice. In the recent games played this last week the sounds of skates, shots on goal and body checks have resounded off the walls at Iceland's blue arena as the Dragons have played Grand Blanc High School, Oxford High School and Midland Dow High School. This years team promises to deliver some top notch high school hockey if the last two adrenaline charged games are any indication. If you like hockey stop watching the TV and make it out to support the team in the stands and see what all the hub-bub is about this year.

Highlights from the Swartz Creek-Oxford game on November 21st.

Highlights from the Swartz Creek-Midland Dow game on November 24th.

Ketzler's Florist Starts Enters New Beginning.

For many of us growing up around Flint the name Ketzler and flowers go together like bread and butter. After all the Ketzler family have been serving the floral needs of families in the area for 3 generations. Tonya Ketzler present owner of Ketzler's Florist on Hill road grew up in the flower business. Her grandparents started it, her parents continued it and now she operates the family business and her niece now working in the shop makes the fourth generation of Ketzlers to be in the flower business. At a special after hours party at the flower shop Tuesday evening Tonya had some interesting news. After three generations of all family ownership Ketzler's Florist is starting a new partnership with the Knickerbocker family from Swartz Creek. John Knickerbocker, current president of the Swartz Creek school board, and wife Kathy have joined with Tonya to continue the floral business for many generations to come. A representative from FTD was on hand to present John and Kathy their new FTD monogrammed shirts and welcome them to the floral family. Ketzler's Florist is alive and well and building on a strong foundation for the future. Looking for flowers, plants, corporate gifts for the holiday season? Call Ketzler's at 810-238-2694 today and tell John you saw the news on Swartzcreekweek.com.

Help Keep Swartz Creek Green.

Help keep Swartz Creek green by keeping high tech devices out of the landfill. A growing problem across the United States today is the introduction of discarded electronics into landfills. During the manufacturing process toxic chemicals and materials are used to produce electronic devices. That old computer, monitor, VCR or DVD player should  not go on the curb with the trash but instead needs to be de-manufactured and re-cycled. Around Swartz Creek we all have those re-cycling tubs for paper, plastic, metals etc. but what do you do with old electronics. Diane L.Green Photography LLC in Swartz Creek has started a  free drop off program. Simply bring your old electronics to the studio during regular business hours and drop them off. Their is no cost for this service. The studio will then contact Goodwill Industries of Mid-Michigan who de-manufactures the equipment and re-cycles the material. This is a win -win situation for everyone. We help to keep the landfills clear of pollutants, Goodwill Industries provides employment for people with disabilities and the materials get recycled. Need to drop something off? Have a question? Call the studio at 810-496-3498.

Items that will be accepted are: Computers, Laptops, Printers, Scanners, Plotters, Cameras, I-pods, PDA's, Fax Machines, Copiers, Ethernet hubs, switches, and routers, Monitors (not TV's), Phones, Adding Machines, Calculators, VCR's, DVD players, Stereo Components, tape recorders, computer boards and memory sticks. Household appliances will not be accepted. Thank You.

Offices Go Green With Goodwill.

This last week we had the good fortune to meet with Kathy Rometty from Goodwill Industries of Mid-Michigan Inc.. Kathy works for goodwill in the commercial donations department. For those of us with businesses in the Swartz Creek Area one of the growing concerns is the environmental impact of office equipment. You know those old computers, copiers, fax machines, monitors and computers that have either ceased in work or are out dated and have been replaced with newer equipment. The basic problem with them is the fact they were manufactured with heavy metals and other environmental pollutants. Just set them curb side for pick up or tossing them in the dumpster may get rid of them from your business but adds to the total level of pollutants in the landfill. Many communities around Michigan are now keeping track of how much technology materials are discarded by local businesses and how they are discarded. As Kathy informed us Goodwill Industries has a solution that helps businesses stay green. By donating you old office equipment to Goodwill two important things happen. The pollutants stay out of the environment and Goodwill receives the chance to make a little money. Oh don't forget the write off for the donation of the remaining value come tax  time. Goodwill Industries accepts donations of office equipment and de-manufactures them to retrieve valued parts and materials such as IC chips and gold plating. Materials are then separated by type and recycled helping to keep the environment green. Goodwill Industries is looking for commercial donations of most any type as well as office equipment. Tables, chairs, desks, filing cabinets, over-stock or what ever is filling that back stock room and cluttering up the office. Contact Kathy Rometty at Commercial Donations, Goodwill Industries of Mid-Michigan, 501 S. Averil Ave., Flint, Michigan 48506-4086. Phone 810-762-9960 Extension 105 of Fax 810-625-6365. Kathy may also be reached by E-Mail at k_rommety@hotmail.com. Lets keep Swartz Creek green with Goodwill.
